ZPHC Exemestane 25mg is an orally active, steroidal Type I Aromatase Inhibitor (AI) containing Exemestane as its active pharmaceutical ingredient. Functioning as an irreversible “suicide” inactivator, Exemestane binds covalently to the active catalytic site of the cytochrome P450 aromatase enzyme, permanently deactivating the enzyme responsible for converting androgenic precursors (such as testosterone and androstenedione) into estrogens (estradiol and estrone).
Unlike non-steroidal Type II aromatase inhibitors (such as Anastrozole or Letrozole) which bind reversibly to aromatase, Exemestane prevents “estrogen rebound” even after cessation of dosing, as target tissue estrogen clearance requires the synthesis of new aromatase enzyme proteins.
